Creating an inclusive environment requires awareness, understanding, and practical skills to communicate and provide appropriate assistance. Visual and Hearing Impairments equips participants with the knowledge and hands-on techniques needed to interact confidently and respectfully with individuals who are visually or hearing impaired.
The programme introduces different types of visual impairment, including blindness and low vision, as well as hearing impairment, including deafness and being hard of hearing. Participants will develop a better understanding of how these impairments may affect communication, mobility, and everyday interactions.
Through discussions, demonstrations, practical activities, and real-world scenarios, participants will learn safe and respectful guiding techniques when assisting individuals with visual impairments. The programme also covers appropriate communication techniques for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Participants will explore common assistive devices and tools used by individuals with visual and hearing impairments. Through hands-on learning, they will develop greater confidence in providing appropriate assistance while respecting individual preferences, independence, and dignity.
